Week 4 Report

As of this morning I am down to 179 pounds! It is great to break through the 180 barrier. So now my weight loss has averaged 3.25 pounds per week. This past week I did lots of physical work, so that probably helped with the weight loss. But over the weekend I ate VERY well. When I have been eating only every other day during the week, it seems that I can eat huge amounts of food on the weekend and never really get full. It is amazing to be losing weight at a good rate and still be able feast occasionally. It is hard to believe that 4 weeks have gone by already!

Week 3 Report

After three weeks, I am down to 182 pounds. So I've lost an average of 3.3 pounds per week so far. I've adjusted well to the diet with very few side effects. I'm seldom hungry and generally feel energetic. However, I also haven't had any positive side effects. I had hoped that the diet would help with migraine headaches, but that remains about the same. I do think I have fewer migraines on fasting days, but no reduction on eating days.

Intermittent Fasting Week 2 Report

This morning, after 2 weeks of modified fasting on alternate days, I was down to 184 lbs. I have been taking in about 300 calories on fasting days (mostly in the form of carrots and celery) and have tried to continue eating a normal amount on non-fasting days. In the past week, I lost only 1 lb. However, in week 1 I lost 7 lbs, which was impossibly high. So averaged over the 2 weeks I have lost 4 lbs per week. That is a bit more believable, but still rather high. I suspect that I am actually losing about 2-3 lbs per week.

The good news is that the hunger and desire to eat have been growing more managable in the past week. I did eat heartily on Saturday and Sunday (being Easter) this week. That made Monday a bit of a shock to the system, but I was ready to start having that thin feeling I get from fasting versus the bloated sensation from eating all day with no restriction.

Day 9 of Alternate Day Fasting

Today was the best fasting day yet! I woke up hungry, but just drank 2 glasses of water and felt good for the rest of the day. I did some pretty serious physical work all afternoon, and had plenty of energy and muscle strength. Previous fasting days I have felt weak, but not today. Perhaps my body is beginning to adjust.

Week One Report

This morning I weighed in because it was the morning after a fast day. I'm down to 185 lbs., which means I am now down 7 lbs from my starting weight. So I lost an average of one pound per day! I don't think this is entirely "real" weight loss because I am sure to put on about three pounds today when I start eating. But still, four pounds of weight lost in a week is enough to motivate me through another week of fasting every other day.

Day 7 of Alternate Day Fasting

Today I experienced very little hunger in the normal sense. I just have a desire to eat to get my physical energy up. I think the fasting makes thinking and speaking clearly and carefully a challenge. I also want to eat to get my physical strength up. I walk around feeling wobbly from dizziness and weak muscles on the fasting days.

Day 5 of Alternate Day Fasting

On fasting days I feel a bit weak. So today it was a bit of a struggle to be physically active working around the yard at home.

Day 4 of Alternate Day Fasting

Today was another feast day! Unlike the first one, I felt great today. It probably helped that I didn't overdo the Grape Nuts cereal this morning like I did last time.

Day 3 of Alternate Day Fasting Diet

It was good to be back to a fasting day today. I have a lot more energy than yesterday. Hunger comes and goes, but it seems a bit less than on Day 1. I did have a 140 calorie snack at lunch, after skipping breakfast. It was good at the moment, but I'm not sure that it was really worth it in the end. Within an hour I was pretty seriously hungry again. Perhaps it is better be able to have a larger evening meal. To stay under by 300 calorie goal, Dinner is pretty much limited to some carrots.

By dinner time I realized a serious mistake. Since I didn't eat breakfast, I forgot to take my prescription medication. That explains the way I felt today. I'm on a meta blocker for migraine prevention and heart arrhythmia. This medication also lowers your blood pressure. Since I forgot to take it, my heart was pounding and my blood pressure was high enough to make my head feel pressurized. After I took today's dose, I felt a lot better.

Day 2 of Alternate Day Fasting (Feasting!)

Wow, I was surprised to discover that I felt much worse today than yesterday, and that's no April Fools joke either. I felt a bit sick after my admittedly large breakfast this morning. The rest of the day I tended to be a bit dizzy and fuzzy. Whereas my energy felt limitless yesterday, I was sluggish today.

For the most part my eating habits were normal today. I may have taken in 10% more calories than normal, but I certainly felt no desire to stuff myself, so I didn't.

Oh yes, one other surprise happened. I thought I would sleep really well last night with an empty stomach. Sometimes a big meal with give me crazy dreams, so I figured no meal would be great. Instead I had some really weird dreams and woke up feeling exhausted.

I've noticed another big difference between today's feasting and yesterday's fasting was body temperature. I was cold yesterday even in a warm room. Today I feel overheated. Not surprising, I guess.

If I can't continue this diet I don't think it will be discomfort or hunger. Rather, it will just be weirdness of feeling so different from one day to the next. I'm hoping that after several weeks all of these differences will either lessen or become "normal." The fixation that the diet has produced on how I'm feeling is going to get annoying fast if it doesn't go away.

As I end the feast day, I'm really looking forward to the fast day and hope that this one will energize me the way the last one did.
